The band was started mid-2005, but it wasn’t apparent at the time that the song being written then would become what the band is today. There were no songtitles and no band name, but the first song (The Task) sounded incredibly epic and motivated me to write some more. The inspiration to write the lyrics and ultimately name the band came a couple months later. The idea for the album concept came during a crazy dream. Some details were changed a bit, but the content of the dream and the locations remained the same.

I thought of the band’s name while speaking with Paul Kuhr and considering the Biblical creation of Adam. People being formed from dust would be harmed by the falling rain, thus the name Rainwound was born.

After the demo was finished, pieces of it were showcased on MySpace, and a few copies made their way to various corners of the world. I already had plans to record a better version during this time, and picked up an acoustic guitar, a new electric, a studio microphone, and a keyboard… All of the new instruments and equipment were used on the album version of Shrouded Destiny which was set for re-release on May 28th, 2007. It’s true that the album was recorded direct-input as I was just starting out and didn’t really know a lot about equipment.

The second album, The Ivory Chapel, was written and recorded from 2006 until 2009 and finally released digitally on October 5th, 2009. There are currently plans to do a physical print of the album. This is Rainwound’s second full-length concept album.

On September 11th, 2011, Rainwound released ‘United’, an EP dedicated to the victims and families of 9/11. It features a much cleaner prog sound with a 90s pop twinge, and clean vocals only. The growls and screams will return in the future.
